Kamchatka is a large peninsula in far eastern Russia. It is surrounded by the Sea of Okhotsk, the Bering Sea, and the Pacific Ocean. It is 140,000 square miles in area. The climate is severe: it is very similar to Alaska. It has around 200 volcanoes, of which 65 are still active. Kambalnoe lake is very near the southern tip.
